We are thrilled to have been able to release 7 books this year! Joel Chace’s Humors in January, Anne Gorrick & John Bloomberg-Rissman’s My Beauty Is an Occupiable Space in February, Melinda Luisa de Jesús’ Peminology in March, Robert Cowan’s Close Apart in May, Eileen Tabios’ One, Two, Three: Selected Hay(na)ku Poems in June, and the anthologies Humanity and Hay(na)ku 15 in August and September, respectively.
Our book events and launches this year were held in partnership with the Asian American Women Artists Association, Eastwind Books of Berkeley, Philippine American Writers and Artists (PAWA), Powerhouse Brooklyn, Saint Helena Public Library, and the San Francisco Public Library.
Humanity, edited by Eileen R. Tabios featuring work by scholars, poets, writers, ministers, and cultural and environmental changemakers, was released as an action call in partnership with award-winning South Asian author Murzban Shroff in support of UNICEF USA’s Emergency Relief campaigns on the borders of the United States and in Syria.
This year also, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors appointed our publisher and co-founder Aileen Cassinetto as the next Poet Laureate of San Mateo County. Aileen’s term will commence January 2019 with the idea that, “To be a Poet Laureate is to perceive and bridge the gaps that exist in a community. It is about creating empathy and recognizing our shared humanity… It’s about hope, that great unifier, which transforms lives, which fortifies communities, which changes the world.” It is this hope that drives our mission and we look forward to all that is possible in 2019.
